Ministry in Music
Our church community is blessed with many talented members
who willingly and generously share their musical gifts.
Pianists, vocalists, guitarists, brass and wind players
regularly perform during Sunday worship services and special
church events such as our annual Advent Vespers service.
Memorial's size is especially conducive
to performance opportunities for our children - many young
musicians participate in worship throughout the church year.
A small ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists offers
contemporary Christian music such as Marty Haugen's "Now
the Feast and Celebration."
Children's Choir
The Children's Choir is a great opportunity
for young members of the congregation to participate in
the worship service!
The choir is open to youth grades one through
five. Rehearsals begin in September and continue through
May. They are held on Wednesday evening from 6:30 until
7:30.
The choir participates in the worship service twice a month.
The choir also participates in the Advent Vespers service,
Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday and Easter services.
It is a wonderful opportunity for youth
that enjoy music to meet new friends in their church community!
Handbell Choir
Memorial Lutheran Church has four octaves
of beautiful Malmark handbells that are used in the worship
service.
The handbell choir consists of a cross-generational
group of members of the church community. The number of
members in the choir may change but it does not deter the
group from doing wonderful things with the music! The choir
rehearses on Saturday mornings at 9:30. The rehearsals generally
continue over an 8-week time period.
Dedication is a key to this group of volunteers.
No music experience is needed but the desire to contribute
beautiful music to the worship service is a very big plus!
Chancel Choir
Choral music is a treasured part
of our Lutheran heritage. Directed by Neil Lubke, our Chancel
Choir performs a wide variety of anthems and helps lead
the singing of hymns and liturgy. The choir rehearses on
Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 PM and sings alternately at
the 8:30 or 10:30 services on Sunday, September through
May. New adult and high school age members are always welcome.
